REVIEW OF RULE CHANGES
2009-11-23
The XXIV International Softball Federation Congress that took place a few weeks ago in Venezuela had many significant outcomes. While not being as impactful as some of the major changes that the game has seen this decade, there were modifications made to the playing rules during last month’s proceedings in Venezuela that players, coaches, umpires, and even fans and media should know about.
The Playing Rules Commission met at the Congress and approved several proposals that had been submitted by ISF member national federations.
The changes will all be incorporated into the ISF’s 2010-2013 playing rules. However, for ease of review of what was passed at the meetings in Venezuela, ISF Director of Umpires Bob Stanton has put together a document containing solely that information. Accessible now through this link, the document will also be reachable via the Playing Rules page in the Rules & Standards section of www.ISFsoftball.org.
Several major competitions where these changes will be in place will take place next year, including, but not limited to, the Central American & Caribbean Games, the ISF XII Women’s World Championship, and the III World University Softball Championship. The full calendar of 2010 international softball events scheduled to-date can be found here.

Three-and-a-half months ago, the national teams from the Philippines and Indonesia were among the 16 countries participating in the ISF XII Men’s World Championship in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Canada). However, because those two were not in the same pool, they didn’t meet head-to-head back in July. So, when they tangled on the field in a regional event that wrapped up two weeks ago, it was perhaps the first such meeting since the 8th Asian Men’s Championship three years ago in Japan.
The recent tournament was the 10th South East Asian Men’s Softball Championship, which also included Malaysia, Singapore, and two teams from the event’s host country, Brunei Darussalam. This marked the first time that Brunei hosted a South East Asian softball championship.

World governing body has new Web domain as part of re-branding efforts too
PLANT CITY, FLORIDA (USA) -- A new identity has begun for the International Softball Federation following today’s launch of a new logo for the sport’s world governing body.
Coming on the heels of the XXIV ISF Congress in Venezuela where new officials were elected and a new constitution was adopted, softball’s top organization has a new forward direction, marked – figuratively and literally – by the re-branding efforts that are beginning today.
The logo – shown at the top of this release – carries over the green from the previous ISF mark, while now incorporating four other colors. Created by a designer from Spain, the new identity also includes the ball portion of the logo previously used for BackSoftball, the Olympic reinstatement campaign.
